We are improving the resilience of the Optus SMS API to enable faster, automatic failover during service disruptions. For this to work, some customers will need to make a small firewall change by 3 December 2026.
Does this affect you? * If your organisation’s firewall only allows connections to specific IP addresses, you’ll need to add two new addresses to your allowlist (see below). Please forward this email to whoever manages your network or firewall. * If you don’t restrict connections by IP address, no action is needed.
What to do Make sure your firewall allows outbound connections to all three of these addresses: 1. 54.66.199.3 - Existing – keep this 2. 52.65.154.116 - New – please add 3. 54.66.172.54 - New – please add
Why this matters: The two new addresses are backups. If a disruption occurs, api.sms.optus.com.au will automatically switch to them. If they’re blocked by your firewall, your SMS API connections may fail during that disruption.
What isn’t changing: Keep connecting to api.sms.optus.com.au as you do today. Your API credentials, integration and code don’t need to change. If you’ve hard-coded an IP address instead of the hostname, please switch to the hostname.
